Integrated Treatment Planning for People with Co-occurring Conditions

This presentation begins with a review of the six evidence-based principles of intervention for integrated service delivery that can be specifically applied to developing competency-based practice in any MH and SUD program, by any person in a helping role, with any level of licensure or training, including peers and front-line staff, and then goes on to focus on the application of these principles to the development and documentation of integrated recovery oriented stage-matched treatment/recovery planning in any service setting. The presentation illustrates the connection of the assessment to gathering the information that leads to the treatment plan and describes in detail how each of the six principles contributes information to the development of the treatment plan. The presentation illustrates a treatment plan template that begins with hopeful goals and a strength-based discussion of current status, and then lists each primary issue, the stage and stage-matched interventions for each, and the specific decision steps or skill learning steps that are milestones of progress and opportunities for rounds of applause. A sample case study is used to illustrate how this works.

- To recognize the importance of beginning the treatment plan with the person’s most hopeful vision for a happy life, and the strengths they are currently using for each issue, so that the plan is person centered, strength-based, and recovery oriented.

Dr. Minkoff is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Senior at ZiaPartners, Inc., a behavioral health system consultation firm in Tucson, AZ. He is Board-Certified as an addiction psychiatrist and community psychiatrist, Board Member and Products and Services Committee Chair of the American Association for Community Psychiatry, playing a leading role in the development and dissemination of the LOCUS Family of Tools, as well as the Self-assessment for Modification of Anti-Racism Tool (SMART) for which he is co-author. He was one of the original members of the federal Interdepartmental Serious Mental Illness Coordinating Committee (2017-20). He is Co-Chair of the Community Psychiatry Committee of the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry, and one of the lead authors of the 2021 Report: Roadmap to the Ideal Crisis System, published by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. He is a member of the National Council’s Medical Director Institute and consults to the National Council Centers of Excellence on Integrated Care and CCBHCs.

This course is self-paced and the estimated time to complete is approximately 60 minutes. In addition to viewing a 50-minute video presentation, learners must earn a score of 80% or higher on a post-assessment and complete the post evaluation to receive contact hours or CME credits for completing the course.
