MESUD LC 2026 Stigma Training Day
Stigma against people with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) is a set of negative attitudes and stereotypes that can create barriers to treatment and make these conditions worse. Stigma can prevent people who need care from seeking it, disclosing substance use, or can result in poorer quality care. This hybrid training day will explore actionable steps to reduce SUD stigma in everyday clinical settings, to equip prescribing clinicians and their teams to better meet the needs of their patients.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand key concepts and theories related to the science of health stigma from a social-psychological perspective
- Identify opportunities to implement evidence-based strategies to reduce stigma in everyday clinical context
This activity includes topics recommended by the DEA and SAMHSA to satisfy 2023 MATE Act requirements.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Hanley Center of Health Leadership and Education and CCSME. The Hanley Center is accredited by the Maine Medical Association Committee on Continuing Medical Education and Accreditation to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CCSME is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AdCare Educational Institute, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program and its content. 4 hours of continuing education. Partial credit will not be issued.
