PMP Series | Treating Pain in People Who Use Substances
Learning Objectives:
- Describe a framework for acute pain management in the context of substance use disorder (SUD), especially opioid use disorder
- Utilize treatment approaches, including multi-modal treatments, to manage chronic pain in patients with co-occurring chronic pain and SUD
- Employee non-opioid medications that can be effective at helping manage chronic pain in patients with SUD

Jane LiebschutzMD, MPHDr. Liebschutz is a primary care and addiction medicine physician, substance use researcher, educator, and administrator. She is Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC. Her clinical and research agenda focuses on prevention and treatment of opioid use disorders, including safe opioid prescribing and disseminating treatments for opioid use disorders in non-specialty medical settings. She advocates for harm reduction and is passionate about physician wellness.
